How can it be used in the kitchen?

Every part of the pumpkin can be cooked. Its flesh can be used as either a fruit or a vegetable: cookies, couscous, soup, drinks, pie, pasta, stir-fries, you name it! There’s no shortage of recipe ideas! As for the seeds, they make a great quick and nutritious snack. Bonus tip: you can even add pumpkin flowers to your salads for a nice touch (4)!

Good to know:

  • It takes four months for a pumpkin to fully ripen. Seeds are planted in late spring, as the plant can’t handle frost.

  • The summer and early autumn heat helps the fruit grow and mature. It’s harvested in mid-autumn. The harder the skin, the longer it will last. Pumpkins should be stored in a dry place, around 10℃ (5).

🎃 For Halloween, don’t waste the insides of your pumpkins! Keep them intact and decorate just the outside instead—it looks just as great!

If you’ve got lots of pumpkins at home, cut them into pieces and freeze them.

Native to Central America and cultivated by Indigenous peoples for over 5,000 years, the pumpkin now comes in more than 150 varieties worldwide (6).
Part of the squash family, the pumpkin is actually a fruit!
